One of my readers reached out to me very desperate to get advice on what to use on her 3b hair. She said she genreally has to use a lot of styling roducts to have the perfect bouncy curly but but this doesnt always work. I thought to myself, oh dear, a question about styling, this isn't my forte. So I had to do some research because my product line is more about health promotion and length retention over styling. This is what i learned: 1. Use a cleanser that balances the moisture of your hair Although our scalp produces its own natural oils, travelling from scalp to hair tip is a long journey for curly hair. So washing your hair with a product that adds moisture whilst gently cleansing is ideal. We recommend our Coconut Cleanse Shampoo Bar made with no sulphates or parabens, organic coconut oil and aloe vera, your cleansing product cannot get much gentler than that. 2. Revitalise thirsty curls with a leave-in A leave-in conditioner works to moisturise your hair throughout the day. Products such as Kinky Curly Knot Today may work wonders for type 3 hair. And may provide that natural bouncy look that you're looking for. If liquid creams aren't your preference you can try a butter, of which I make a few. I recommendBecause Olive You Moisture Sealing Hair Butter for curly hair. 3. Use styling products such as gels and creams Gels and creams will help you to control frizz. You can learn more about frizz control if you learn about your hair porosity. You will have to experiment to learn which ones are best for you but I can recommend the DevaCurl One Conditon Cream and Eco Styler Gel. If you live in the UK you may have to order it from the US but I've heard goo things about this range for 3b hair. I know you're probably thinking wait, why is she recommending someone else's products? Because my customers come first. Is it Normal for Hair to Break After Trimming?

The short answer to this is no. Trimming our hair does not in itself cause or trigger breakage. The long answer to this is that hair tends to taper at the ends as at grows longer. This is because the ends of your hair are the oldest parts of your hair, they have therefore been through the most and are naturally the weakest.

Imagine your hair in braids, I know that personally, when im getting to the end of a braid the width of my hair decreases into a cone shape. This triangular end is the tapered section of your hair and the ideal section for trimming away. Assuming you trim all of this tapered section off, hair breakage should not directly occur as a result of this. If you notice you have split ends after a trim, it is likely that you were overly conservative in the amount of hair you chose to cut off. This doesn't necessarily mean that you should go and cut more off, if your priority is to grow your hair longer, then it makes sense to cutt of less than the amount your hair has grown in a month. But if your priority is to retain only the strongest parts of your hair, then it would make sense to cut off all of the damaged hair. It can also be a very emotional process, cutting off hair that you spent so long trying to grow, but when the ends of our hair are tapered, the shaft of the hair is literally wearing away, and it is the shaft of the hair that protects the internal cortex of the hair. Once this part of the hair starts to become exposed, then the risk for split ends and increased breakage increases. What you can do to achieve minimal breakage is to practice regular moistirising, sealing and protective styling whilst you aim to retain lenth. Have you experienced breakage after trimming?
