African- American Pros and Cons of Natural Hair
Posted by HMH Blogger By Patience Muia Natural hairstyles are not just a personal style but also a reflection of culture and heritage. African-Americans have different hair textures; some have tight curled while some have straight hair. Straightened hair might be easy to manage but on the other side it also has some ugly side effects as well. Chemically-treated hair is usually prone to breakage. Hair without chemicals displays the texture and beauty of black hair. First, it allows one to style in various ways. There is both good and bad in deciding to go natural when it comes to hair. Some people will opt for a natural hair look while some people will opt for weaves and chemicals. Some of the pros and cons of going natural includes:
Pros
• One gets to have a very liberal, free feeling in the sense that you do not get to feel uncomfortable each time. • As compared to artificial, natural hair is healthy and beautiful. Most people will walk away from artificial because some are chemical laden, and this makes them have an allergic reaction to their head or skin. • Natural hair doesn’t accompany itself with superficial feelings like; it doesn’t restrict one from going swimming or working out too hard. • There is an ultimate comfort in knowing that you are just being yourself. • People will respect you. In fact, you are likely to get more compliments unlike when you are not natural.Cons
• Artificial hair requires more maintenance than natural hair. For instance, when you go out for swimming, you realize that you will have to wash your hair with shampoo right away or condition the hair as instructed. It also requires daily moisturizing with lotion. • You are likely to receive a lot of judgment from the society. To be honest, most people are used to seeing straight hairs; nobody will talk about it or compliment it. It is therefore obvious that natural is the way to go. Let us learn to appreciate ourselves as we are. Artificial is quickly becoming popular and too common. If we want to be different, going natural is the way.
